Rain doesn’t interrupt activities at Daydream Island. The Living Reef underwater observatory is fully sheltered, and all daily programs such as trivia, bingo, table tennis, giant chess, and the outdoor cinema can move indoors if necessary. 

The day spa, gym, and rainforest walk (Especially beautiful in light rain) remain open. 

Water activities like snorkelling, kayaking, and sailing are paused during strong winds or storms for safety reasons, but the Tour Desk will reschedule your booking for the next available clear time at no extra cost. 

Pro tip: Review the weekly activities schedule before your arrival. If rain is expected, pack suitable clothing and bring a book. There’s something truly enchanting about reading with a glass of champagne as tropical rain taps on the window.

Daydream Island is warm year-round, with daytime temperatures rarely falling outside 24–31°C. 

April to October is our drier season, with lower humidity, calmer seas, and no need for stinger suits. The ocean is often at its warmest in early winter. 

December to February is the wet season, which is hotter and more humid, with heavier rainfall that typically falls as brief, heavy tropical showers. 

Stinger season runs roughly from November to May. This is when stinger suits (provided free) are worn for ocean swimming and activities. 

Every season has its trade-offs: winter brings cooler pool water, while summer brings the chance of rain, so pick the season that suits how you like to holiday.

There are two types of ‘stingers’ in the area: the Irukandji Jellyfish and the Box Jellyfish. They might be present year-round, but there is a higher risk between October and May where jellyfish can be found around the mainland, islands and occasionally the reef.

The Whitsundays is a tropical region where severe weather, including cyclones, can occur from roughly November to April. If ferries cease operations, guests can remain safely on the island until services resume.

Daydream Island has sheltered areas, backup power, and a well-established severe-weather plan. Our experienced staff will provide updates in person and via the guest app (Download here).

We do highly recommend having travel insurance that covers weather disruptions, as ferry companies set their own cancellation and refund policies. If a severe weather warning is issued before your trip, contact Daydream Island promptly to discuss rescheduling.

Daydream’s pools are unheated, maintaining a natural temperature that makes them pleasantly warm from October to April and refreshingly cool during winter. In the cooler months (May to September), the ocean often surpasses the pools in warmth, making the Living Reef lagoon snorkel a popular option. For those who prioritise warm water during winter visits, bring a rashie or schedule pool time around midday to make the most of the sun.

Daydream’s beaches are coral beaches, so we do not have much sand. This is a legacy of Cyclone Debbie in 2017, which reshaped the shoreline and left the coral rubble that now rings the island. It’s genuinely beautiful, and snorkelling straight off Lovers Cove is one of the island’s best free experiences. 

Coral is rough underfoot, so bring reef shoes (you can buy some at the resort shop). For a classic white-sand swim, we offer day trips to Whitehaven Beach that run regularly and are worth every cent.

Daydream Island is approximately 1km (about a 10 to 20-minute stroll) from north to south, and 400m east-to-west at its widest point. The island’s highest point is 51m above sea level.

The main area of the resort is at the north of the island, with additional facilities down the south end. You can explore the lush rainforest through the established walking tracks on the western side, where you can take in the stunning views from our purpose-built viewing deck. 

In fact, the whole island is easy to get around on foot. That’s the charm: no cars, no crowds, everything a short stroll away. 

Most guests find 2 to 4 nights is the sweet spot: enough time to snorkel the Living Reef, do the rainforest walk, take a Whitehaven or reef day trip and still have proper pool days. If you’re the type who needs new restaurants and nightlife every night, a shorter stay (or splitting your holiday between Daydream and Airlie Beach) may suit you better.

Evenings on Daydream are more relaxed than lively. The island offers a rotating schedule of outdoor cinema, trivia, bingo, and live music on certain nights. Bars stay open into the evening, but most venues close early as the island winds down. If your ideal night involves enjoying a cocktail at sunset, a delicious dinner, and a movie under the stars, you’ll enjoy it here.

Daydream features three main restaurants: Graze (buffet breakfast and casual dining), Salti (Mediterranean seafood), and Infinity (upscale Asian-inspired dinners only). Additionally, it has Tonic Bar, the swim-up Barefoot Bar, and a café/general store for snacks and essentials. 

As a small island, dinner venues often rotate their opening nights, and tables tend to fill up quickly during peak periods. It’s advisable to reserve your dinners either upon arrival or in advance through the resort app. Menus are available online, so checking them beforehand can help you know what to expect.

Guests are not permitted to bring their own alcohol or any type of food or beverage onto the island due to hygiene and food safety guidelines. Baby formula and necessary food for a baby/infant are exceptions and permitted. Your room has a bar fridge to keep perishables cold. We also have a general store with basics such as soft drinks, wine, snacks, sunscreen, and nappies. The selection is limited, and prices are higher, so don’t depend on it for essentials like baby supplies.oo

Honest answer: yes, expect island pricing. Every ingredient arrives by barge or ferry, and there’s no competing supermarket next door, which means mains are priced at typical Australian resort rates. 

We have done our best to make sure you see value while staying with us:

• Our buffet breakfast (included in most packages) is generous enough to carry you through to a late lunch

Daydream Island Resort prides itself on taking care of our guests, staff, and community and we are doing everything we can to ensure the wellbeing, health and safety of our guests and team members. We will continue to deliver our high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the Resort along with additional preventative cleaning measures to minimize the risk of any transmission.

Ferries run to a timetable, not on demand. If you miss one, the next service may be a couple of hours later. Build in a buffer on your arrival day, and let the resort know your flight details when booking transfers. Check-in is from 2 pm; if you arrive early, the transit lounge has showers, lockers and somewhere comfortable to wait while the island prepares your room.

Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, and mobile reception is generally good in the main building and pool areas. However, as this is a small island 30 minutes from the mainland, coverage can be patchy in some rooms and at the far ends of the island. 

In-room TVs stream over the Wi-Fi, so a rare drop-out can interrupt your movie. We recommend downloading any must-watch shows before you travel.

Daydream Island is a special place for families, so we’ve made it easy to enjoy. We are able to accommodate larger families or those who want more space and privacy by offering two separate rooms which are interconnecting with each other to form a Family Room. Our interconnecting rooms are available across most of our different room types and all with different combinations of bedding. While Daydream Island is walkable end to end in about 20 minutes, it’s not flat, and there are hills, stairs, and long distances between rooms, pools, and restaurants. 

The resort does have buggies available if you need it; just mention any mobility needs when booking so the team can place you in a room close to the main facilities and arrange buggy assistance. 

Prams manage well on the main paths, but a carrier is easier for the rainforest walk and coral beaches.

The main part of the resort is wheelchair accessible with accessible rooms on the ground and first floors of the resort. Our accessible rooms have wider doorways to the bedroom and bathroom, plus other special features to help guests with additional access requirements.

The resort has a ground floor, first floor, and in some wings, a second floor. Our low-rise building is nestled into the Northern end of the island with a central, atrium-style building and three wings of accommodation that wrap around our pools and open up to the beach.

Unfortunately, dogs, cats and pets, in general, are not allowed to be brought with you to Daydream Island on Holiday.

Due to the high probability of guests being injured due to the use of this equipment, we’re currently unable to accommodate bicycles, scooters and skateboards.

Due to the high rates of air traffic in the Whitsundays, as a result of the region’s multiple heli-pads and two airports located at Proserpine and Hamilton Island, the use of recreational drones is not permitted on Daydream Island Resort.

We like to take it easy on Daydream Island. There’s no strict dress code, so casual clothing is fine, including resort wear for dining out. It can get a little cooler at night time so it’s a good idea to also pack a light jacket and jeans. If you’re planning to spend most of your time outdoors, the Queensland sun can be very strong, so don’t forget sunscreen with a high SPF, sunglasses, flip flops/thongs, sandshoes, and of course, your swimmers.
