Activities

Daydream Island is a tropical haven for romantics, families and groups alike. With an array of activities on offer across the island each day, guests can experience the splendour of snorkelling adventures or explore the island and the surrounding Great Barrier Reef Marine Park by helicopter, sailboat or jet ski.

Our expansive pool landscape, coral beaches, rainforest walks, outdoor cinema, gym facilities and unlimited access to non-motorised water activities ensure there is something to keep everyone entertained.

You can book on-island activities with our Tour Desk on arrival. Reserve off-island tours before you arrive; full booking details are at the bottom of this page.

Things to think about when planning activities

Most of what you’ll want to do here runs daily, and our team will have you booked within minutes of arrival. Snorkel gear, kayaks, paddleboards and the rainforest walk are yours to use whenever you like, and the Living Reef and underwater observatory are open whatever the weather is doing.

Some experiences depend on the water. When wind or swell makes sailing, kayaking or a reef trip unsafe, our Watersports and Tour Desk teams will move you to the next available window or the following day. Check the weekly schedule on arrival so you know what’s running during your stay.

What happens if the weather turns?

Water sports, catamarans, glass-bottom kayaks and most off-island boats pause in strong winds or storms. Our teams assess conditions throughout the day, and we won’t send you out on water we’re not happy with.

A good rule to follow: book weather-dependent activities early in your stay, so there’s a later day to move them to. And a wet day is far from a lost one; the Living Reef and underwater observatory stay open, and the rainforest walk is at its best in light rain

What happens if I need to change a booking?

If you cancel or reschedule within 24 hours of departure, a 100% fee applies to that activity. No-shows are charged in full.

If the operator or we cancel because of weather or operating conditions, that’s a different situation. Speak to the Tour Desk the same day, and we’ll confirm whether you’re being moved to the next available departure or credited.

Prices and operating conditions can change. The on-island and off-island activity PDFs on this page show the current line-up, so download the latest version before you travel.

Are the pools heated?

Our pools aren’t heated, as they sit at natural temperature. From October to April, that’s comfortable all day. Between May and September they run cool, often cooler than the ocean, particularly on overcast winter days.

Plan winter pool time for the sunny middle of the day, and treat the Living Reef snorkel or a Whitehaven day trip as your warm-water option. It’s worth knowing before you pack a week of pool days into a July stay.

How many days do I need?

Daydream is a small island, about a kilometre end to end, and is walkable in 20 minutes. Most guests find two to four nights is the sweet spot. Two nights covers the Living Reef, a rainforest walk and a proper pool day. Three or four gives you room for an off-island trip to Whitehaven Beach or the outer reef, which run most of the day, plus a spare day if the weather moves your plans around.

Staying five nights or more? Build in a day trip or two, book a spa treatment, and let a couple of afternoons stay deliberately slow. That’s the holiday this island does best. For a night-by-night breakdown, see our Whitsundays itinerary guide.
